Welcome to REFFIS from the Chairman - Tony King From Caithness to Cornwall, Co. Waterford to Co. Antrim, and in Australia there are qualified REFFIS fly-fishing Instructors, Schools, and Guides; all are listed in this directory. They offer to teach and take you fly fishing for salmon, trout and sea trout in rivers, lochs, reservoirs and lakes. Members of REFFIS are also members of The Salmon & Trout Association(S&TA). We are proud of our affiliation to S&TA, the long established guardian of gamefishing interests. REFFIS Instructors in Mainland Britain, and many of our Overseas Instructors, hold The Salmon & Trout Association's National Instructors Certificate (STANIC) or The Scottish Game Angling Instructors Certificate (SGAIC). These are not rubber stamp qualifications - intending instructors are rigorously examined over two days - only those truly capable of teaching are awarded these Certificates. Recently, REFFIS took a leaf from the United States gamefishing book - we started to fill the need for Guides by anglers visiting strange waters. REFFIS Guides do not teach, they assist, and are experienced fly fishermen with detailed knowledge of their rivers and lakes. REFFIS goes further than being a body of qualified instructors and guides. It's Standard of Facilities and Code of Customer Care require all instructors to: 1. Teach on established gamefishing waters 2. Have tackle of good quality for the use of clients 3. Issue approved refresher notes 4. Be insured under the S&TA group policy 5. Issue the REFFIS Safety Leaflet 6. Ensure their brochure is truthful Guides must sign our Code of Customer Care, and have a full knowledge of their waters - we spend a day with them to make certain this is the case. Now, a unique REFFIS assurance to our clients: we visit all those wishing to be included in our Register. We inspect their facilities, read their brochure and notes, walk their waters. If they move, we re-inspect. No other teaching body takes such care, indeed, many 'so called' instructors are not qualified by the S&TA, ourselves, or any angling organization. In addition to tuition and guiding, many members let or arrange fishing for clients.
All our members are delighted to advise on unaccompanied fishing to let in their areas. Many members themselves offer unaccompanied fly fishing lets, indeed in some instances this forms a major part of their business activities. Please contact any of our members to discuss your fishing requirem We are the key to successful fly fishing days. |
