Welcome to RememberNorfolk, the website for the ARCH (Archiving Rural Community History) Project

ARCH is an exciting new project run by Norfolk County Council’s cultural services department. It supports a network of community archiving groups in market towns across the county and in Norwich.

To see the full county collection, click Thumbnails above.

To locate one of our groups, click Group List. Then select the location you’re interested in. To see that group’s collection, click the Thumbnails button on their ‘local’ homepage when you arrive.

You can Search the collection at any time; either the whole county archive (from this main home page) or a particular group’s collection (from that group’s local home page) – just click Search .. ..

Once you’ve found a record you’re interested in, click on it for more information – or to add information of your own.

The archive belongs to the people who contribute to it. But it is visible to the internet world. Anyone, anywhere, connected to that world may have something to add, or alter, or contribute afresh to any of the group collections. You, for instance !

To join a group, click the Group List button, select the group you’re interested in and then click Contribute .. and follow the on-screen instructions ..

The significance of the archive as it develops really will depend upon you and people like you, who have something to contribute to the history of our county.
You may have lived in Norfolk all your life.
Or you may be reading this in Tasmania, having emigrated there from Swaffham in 1967.
Or you may just have come to Norfolk from Poland and been taking lots of snaps.

It’s all history in the making.
Have your say !! Together we can make history. That’s what this website is for. Let’s do it !

(ARCH is grateful to anyone who has taken photographs appearing on this site but who could not be traced. Any copyright holder wishing to query material can contact us at arch@norfolk.gov.uk )
